Uploading Point Clouds — Georeferenced Projects
Supported Formats
.las, .laz
Note: .copc.laz files are not supported.
What We Check
When you upload a point cloud to a Georeferenced project, we verify:
- File name — must contain only standard characters
- File size — must be within your plan's upload limit
- File format — must be
.las or .laz
- LAS version — versions 1.1 through 1.4 are supported
- Point format — formats 0, 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8 are supported
- Coordinate Reference System (CRS) — both horizontal and vertical CRS are read from the file
How CRS Is Read
We read the CRS information embedded in your LAS/LAZ file header. A valid CRS must have a recognized EPSG code (a standard numeric identifier for coordinate systems). A file may contain a CRS name but still be considered invalid if the EPSG code is missing or zero.
Each file has two CRS components:
- Horizontal CRS — defines the map position (e.g. NAD83 / UTM Zone 17N)
- Vertical CRS — defines the elevation reference (e.g. NAVD88)
What Happens During Upload
We compare your file's CRS against your project's CRS. There are four possible outcomes:
